About The Inky Postmark

At The Inky Postmark we make beautiful prints to remind you of places you love.

Our designs are based around the classic postmarks stamped onto letters and postcards in the United Kingdom during the golden age of staying in touch by post. We love their mid-century designs and the way they optimistically lead you towards thoughts of visits and holidays. They should definitely be better known.

Mini-engravings

The postmark images were etched onto metal plates and stamped onto the item being franked, advertising a place or event as they landed on doormats, desks and breakfast tables throughout the country and beyond.

Each original postmark was unique, varying with the amount of ink applied, the paper surface being stamped and the speed of the stamping process. The results are gloriously individual and have a real character and beauty.

We carefully restore the postmarks, removing distractions such as writing underneath but leaving the unique inky edges and smudges that give each imprint its own personality.
